Hello everyone! I am just now joining the club, though I have been following various posts in this forum for over a year now. I own a 1996 Chevy Corsica "Half-White Corsica" 3.1L MPFI 4spd auto, 179,000 miles and she's still going strong. Though the body isn't in the best condition
.
I recently purchased a ScangaugeII and have been slowly learning how to best use the various gauges to achieve the best MPG. I make a 170 mile trip across state every couple weeks, and have found that at 55-60 mph it can get about 36 mpg with cruise, compared to about 32 mpg with cruise at 75 mph. As the rated hwy mpg for this car is only 27, this is already an improvement
. With my normal driving style I found that I generally get about 22 mpg making the trip across town to the airport about 3 days per week, though recently I have been able to bring this up to about 27
.
Currently, I am working on driving with reference to the MAP reading on the SG and practicing DWL based upon that. Some topics that I would be interesting in reading about from other users are the best uses of the ScangaugeII, best ways to drive an automatic for MPG, and the notorious "accelerate hard or accelerate soft" question.
Happy hypermiling everyone!
