Keep the HX rims or get OEM? (On my insight).
I need a definitive answer on this. Right now I have the wheels off my HX on my insight. The HX is sold so I just thought I would toss that out there. I have found a set of OEM rims in perfect condition with 95% RE92'S. PRICE aside (which is why I didn't mention it) which is better for mpg? I have no plans to ever put smooth wheel covers on these HX rims so that might be a factor.

On the Insight the OE wheels and Re92s are the best by far. When I replaced the tires with new RE92s on my Insight the mileage did not change. Why not buy the Insight rims and swap them out and check the mileage before selling the HX rims? I'm guessing funds?

Right now my insight has HX rims on some no name brand cheap tires. I know from when I drove my uncles friends insight that had OEM rims and re92's (although worn) the RR is much higher with these tires. Besides that the tires I have right now are oversized and killing my city mileage. And above all that, yea funds are killing me. I still have to replace my EGR valve, along with getting a grid charger before considering the rims. The rims plus tires are 500, but the guy I sold the civic to wants the HX rims for 200. So basically 300$ for RE92'S with ~95% tread and OEM rims (from a member on insight forums).
[Edit]: I'm assuming you went from an old set of RE92'S to a new set right?
Also, I'm gonna be changing my radiator today, so keep an eye out later on tonight for an update. (that's already paid for though).

I too, am interested in this topic, and also whether the HX wheels with good tires are better (uncovered) than a covered steelie with equally good tires...

Smooth OEM Insight wheels would be more efficient, assuming rolling resistance of the tires on them is equal. Open spoke wheels like those HX are generally high drag.

OK, thank you.
What about HX rims with covers vs. OEM Insight wheels? Assuming equal-performance from tires, which would be better? Are the Insight rims light, like the HX rims?

HX rims with smooth covers would be similar. The factory Insight wheels are light. (Search for specifics.)
