Apparently I had it backwards then, template was shorten not lengthened, not sure if all that was ever posted or just what you dealt with in the backroom.

A poster named Tesla back in 2013 was attempting to use or compare to NACA 0039 profile. This had a longer Cod's head.

I was the one that did an overlay, not that I recall doing so.

Interesting thread, possibly related.

* Some 2-D flow wing section profiles happen to coincide with contours found in 3-D flow streamline bodies of revolution which I've concentrated on.
* Both are correct for their operational environments and performance specification. And there's always a tradeoff somewhere.
* If you look at what Fachsenfeld and Kamm did to Walter Lay's 1933 half-body, you'll also see a smidgeon of alteration between the two.
* The important thing for us amateurs would be:
1) If you happen to realize that your vehicle's contour happens to match that of a 'known quantity' streamline profile....
2) And you intend on elongating the body for lower drag....
3) Stay on that identified contour when you do it, otherwise you invite separation, negating the whole process.
