Doing an engine/transmission rebuild on my Metro. Anything worth considering?

I'm planning on getting my engine and transmission rebuilt in my '92 Geo Metro (3 cylinder). It's already got the shorter duration cam mod and the transmission from a 4 cylinder Metro. Is there anything else I might be able to do to help improve efficiency while I'm rebuilding it?

Bump the compression, port match, 3-angle valve job, 2-ring xfi pistons, underdrive the belt-driven stuff.

You don't have to go that extreme, standard 600w heater would be sufficient for a 3 cylinder engine.

File fit the rings to each bore. Keeping more air/fuel in the cylinders so it gets burned.
Also keeps fuel and combustion byproducts out of your oil, extending oil changes.

Coatings.

Coating engine internals with both friction reducing coatings as well as thermal barrier coatings can be a benefit.

You'll spend more on that than if you just go to Pick-N-Pull and get 3 used examples of each. They should be good for at least 200K miles each, it's not hard to find them with half that.

Too little results for too much cost. This stuff is best left to unlimited funded race efforts.

Block heaters are for old diesels.
File-fit rings are for racing engines where more gap than standard helps against ring butting at extreme temps. Can't even get them for any 3-cylinder because nobody races them.
