Well there is good reason to keep the underhood stuff dry. Rain falling on hot parts could cause uneven cooling and break seals etc. I've read enough threads on various forums about people washing their engines and causing huge problems to want to keep mine dry

Those vents look good and are placed in the right position for venting the radiator. I am wondering if you are getting warm air into the air intake at the base of your windshield.

vents

The theory is good and goes back at least to Kamm, who's "Kammback" would be useless without the attached flow the pre-windshield engine bay outlets helped generate. The P-51 Mustang was designed with particular care to the cooling system for drag reasons.Walter Korff advocated their inclusion in passenger cars in the early 1960s.Dr.Morelli used Pininfarina's windtunnel to perfect the "vents" of the CNR "banana-car" and was able to match the velocity of flow of the escaping air to that of the surrounding flow field.-------------- Without a windtunnel I would have no idea how anyone might pull this off.----------------- My opinion is that the area near the A-pillars,where the air is accelerating around to the side of the car, would be the location of lowest pressure and best scavenging. Also,if a coolant hose blows, you don't hose down the windshield with glycol, and you've got a chance to see your way to the shoulder of the road without a crash.

I found this YouTube of a tuft tested Miata with a hardtop that I have never seen before.
It completely transforms the look of the car. ( I want one ! )

The video is very well done ( good music too )

That is Lightyear's work. He even painted the tires. I have been looking through the fastbacks lately. I find a couple forum threads where he first showed it off. Then another thread talking about going into production with a guy. He's in Australia and not yet making any of the tops for sale.

When you install the belly pan make sure your exhaust isn't over heating. In my car I am going to use extra input air to help warm the transmission and rear axle in the winter. I may open extra intake vents in the summer to keep everything cooler in the summer.

I am planning on adding a lower grill damper to control input air even more. First is to finish the belly pan.

niky, you're looking at ~$3k. If/when he puts it into production. That is comparable to a new factory hardtop.
