Milwaukee Hybrid Group Meet 3-28-09

For those of you who don't know, Milwaukee has a Hybrid Group. Its a great place to go to learn about hybrids and also talk with like minded people as far as FE goes. They also do driver training which is really great to get tips from some really good drivers. This time they even got a brand new Insight II for demonstration and maybe even some test driving! Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Here is a copy of their announcement.

Hello to all MiHG members and friends,

Believe it or not this will be our first Meet of 2009 and the first time we have not been together over a three month period of time in over 3 years. We’re sure that means that we’ll have some catching up to do with one another as well as comparing notes how this winter has treated us. Just keep in mind that the halcyon days of spring and summer are on their way which will give us all an opportunity to improve on our Drive $mart skills.

This will also be our first Meet after our third successful 2009 Milwaukee Auto Show. Because of the hard work and the time put in by many of our members during the MAS09, we have added almost 100 new members to our MiHG. That brings our total membership to close to 1,000 members across America and Canada, in just over three years since our first meet on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Our growth has been largely due to our MiHG mission and the results of hundreds of members who have worked with other members to help them achieve results never imagined. It also could be our bountiful pot luck lunch, spectacular door prizes, some great PR, no dues and the family atmosphere that we have developed at each of our meets. As it is often said, we are teachers and students to each other!

We anticipate many new members from the MAS09 to be attending our Drive $mart training at this Meet. We’ll have a sign up sheet in the room for some of our veteran members who will volunteer to take some our newest members out for D$A training. We all need to remember that we all took baby steps in getting better fuel mileage, so we should encourage and support our newest members by working with them as they take their first steps in Driving $mart. We’ll have a sign up board for trainers and trainees to sign up before and during the Meet.

Our major segment for this Meet will be called, “It’s Coming Up the Driveway”. This segment is a follow-up to the segment in December called, ”Look What’s Coming Down the Road”. At our last Meet, Randy Mays, Wayne Gerdes and Justin Fons gave us a hint of many new hybrid and alternative vehicles that may be available within a couple years. This “Driveway” segment will be lead by Debbie Anders with the help of Randy Mays and will focus on three new vehicles that will be ready for the public within months. Debbie will present information on the Honda Insight-2, the Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Toyota Prius-3. Each of these vehicles reveals the latest hybrid technology as well as some great entry level pricing. For those members thinking about trading in or up, or members thinking about purchasing their first hybrid, this Meet will be the one for you.

For our first timers, here’s the way things generally work at a meet. We begin to gather in the Library parking lot about 9:15am to schmooze and show off our vehicles. If the weather is good, we’ll begin check-in and our VTP’s (Vehicle Tire Pressures) at that time. At 10:00am we’ll begin to setup our room and by 10:20 we should be set to begin our introduction round robin. We’ll have a short session and then take a short break for snacks and item sales. We’ll then have our main session and offer some updates, reviews, news, short subjects and door prizes and then break for lunch about 12:00 pm. After our potluck lunch, we’ll begin our Drive $mart sessions about 12:30 pm and begin cleanup. Beverages and utensils will be supplied but we encourage all attending to bring some food to share. (Main dishes are greatly appreciated). Be prepared to be gracious, with the understanding that the agenda usually does not follow the timeline.
