Doesn't seem like it would beat a traditional chevy diesel in a chevy like I have by very much, if any.
That's the same point with some Isuzu 4JB1 conversions performed in Southeast Asia and Latin America. Altough getting a better mileage than the stock V8 gasser, is underpowered so the smaller engine ends up working harder than a properly-sized one to get the job done. A better selection of gears can help, by the way. Bolting the 617 to a 700R4 is actually better than using the Mercedes-Benz slushbox which is pretty unefficient, altough I'd rather consider to get a 5-speed stickshift such as an NV4500, or even a 4-speed SM465 with a Gear Vendors overdrive.

A 6-speed T56 will bolt to 6.5L and 6.2L.
But I don't know what you would use for a fly wheel.
I believe it was done on dieselplace dot com a while back by some one on the 6.2L forum.
