I found an article about California passing a law some months ago, but it did not mention oil changes; articles mentioning that were from 2010 - 2011. Stop Changing the Oil Every 3,000 Miles Already! \| TIME.com That mentions Even Jiffy Lube Now Says You Don’t Need an Oil Change Every 3,000 Miles \| TIME.com (twice) Everyone knows you are destroying the planet if you do not use a mulching mower.

It's a nice, even number. Oil is also a lot more advanced now than it was 30 years ago. __________________

I don't think the oil has changed nearly as much as the engines. I would rather run the old standard oils. __________________ 1984 chevy suburban, custom made 6.5L diesel turbocharged with a Garrett T76 and Holset HE351VE, 22:1 compression 13psi of intercooled boost. 1989 firebird mostly stock. Aside from the 6-speed manual trans, corvette gen 5 front brakes, 1LE drive shaft, 4th Gen disc brake fbody rear end. 2011 leaf SL, white, portable 240v CHAdeMO, trailer hitch, new batt as of 2014.
