Informal "respectability" codes might have more to do with harsher attitudes from the cops than racism or povertry. I'm sure a white boy wearing an oversized T-shirt with marijuana leaves print would be more likely to get stopped than a black one wearing something that could be deemed less offensive.

I see mostly the local commies (and some brainwashed kids willing to be seen as some sort of "rebel") using that word.

freebeard- Less offensive to the easily triggered folks whose jobs depend on constantly feeding the prison-industrial complex and showing evidence of a high "crime" rate that they're actively fighting.
Xist- Work was hectic the other day and it's too early right now. I don't follow fully at the moment, but I follow well enough to fall back on the "I'm just the one who's confused here" idea and see that I was relating numbers to the wrong numbers, and therefore reaching an entirely different conclusion. Thanks.

I came into work, started talking to my supervisor, she pulled out her phone and called a friend.
I guess that I am going to try to not talk to her again.
I am considered "antisocial."

When I said it was offensive, I was actually considering it part of a whole bunch of uncivilized behaviors that some of the youth is following as an attempt to shock or to disgust anybody else. Basically, these kids nowadays are just a bunch of attention-seekers, and pretending to be a pothead sure attracts a lot of attention to them, even if some of that attention might be considered undesirable by anybody else (i.e. getting stopped and searched by the police, eventually arrested or just beaten the hell out of, more often).

They're doing it wrong. I survived decades of prohibition by keeping it on the down low.

It's not really meant to look like an anti-authoritarian statement. Well, even in the favelas where they get the weed from, the drug dealers enforce some form of parallel authority.

And sometimes the authoritarian jerks are on too much of a hair trigger.
Couple says mistaken Ohio State buckeye leaf got them stopped by police

The Buckeye is the state tree of Ohio. Nice work, officer.
