If you'll do a search @ GOOGLE IMAGES for:Reinhard Koenig-Fachsenfeld,look at all 46-pages for a glimpse into the past and present.If you click on images it will pull you into sites like AUTO BILD klassik which has a Bildgalerie and wind tunnel images of early cars,some with Cds posted.Fun!

Thanks to Phil and others for this thread and pix.
Cd, what separation? Smoke shows a layer gradient but flow seems attached to me. The wake looks small. What do you see that I'm missing?

Sorry about the big pictures, but it is eye candy, after all.
All I've got to say is 1938 was the pinnacle of low drag aerodynamic cars: the Schlörwagen Göttinger Ei (aka Pillbug) alone would earn this status, but there are several other cars built around this time, too.

The article whence this image comes is also quite interesting (including an interview with a Mercedes aerodynamicist). The accompanying gallery cites the XL1 as having a Cd of .19.
