Cd, what separation? Smoke shows a layer gradient but flow seems attached to me. The wake looks small. What do you see that I'm missing?

If you look at the airflow just above the trunk/boot of the car, the lighter blue stream of air follows an angle which is less steep.
Yes the airflow remains attached ( my mistake with the wording on that ) but the airflow does not stick to the trunk/boot area all the way down the length of the car.
( Artistically, I think the car looks awkward with only one wheel covered and the other so pronounced. I would have made the wheel either the body color or black.)
Love the design on that car. It resembles a slalom racer.

From 1913,its a one-off Airship body built by Alfa Romeo for Count Ricotti. It's been referred to as a 'trompe le vent' (wind deceiver).
I hoped that Klemperer would have tested this in 1922 as he had Rumpler's teardrop cars, but have never seen numbers published for it.
Klemperer did report that the exposed wheels of Rumpler's car increased drag by 50%.If so,Rumpler's limousine of 1924 would have had Cd 0.186 (about same as the 'dirty-bellied' Schlor car of 1938).Not as good as Cd 0.159 of Schlor's car with 'smooth' underbody.
You might imagine what integrating the wheels into the Ricotti car might have done.

I'm no expert,so don't bank on my brain, but I'm interpreting the smoke to show a rebounding of the vertically displaced smoke filaments along the rear slope, but since there's smoke still present right to the truncation, that flow is still attached.
The elevation of the second filament from the floor also appears to recover to the same elevation behind the car which is a very good sign.
Not as good as the 1st-gen 1-liter car or ARVW of 1982 (Cd 0.15) but maybe less 'scary' to the buying public.I like them all.

With the Volvo-style wheels that I have on mine

Phil, thank you for mentioning the fact that the separation that I thought I saw was actually a separate smoke filament.
I hadn't noticed that at first .

If we could be there,we could just wet a finger and 'probe' the airstream.
I'd lay Dollar bills down the back slope of the car then fire up the fan. They're pretty much worthless now and would make fine confetti! And no shortage of them either the way the Federal Reserve is printing them.
