From the "more money than brains" dept.: Porsche 12v Lithium starting battery - $2900

image source: Green Car Congress: Porsche Offers Li-ion Starter Battery Option

Quote:
Porsche will offer a lithium-ion starter battery option—the first automaker to do so—as of January 2010 for the 911 GT3, 911 GT 3 RS, and Boxster Spyder. Weighing less than 6 kg (13 lb), the new battery is more than 10 kg or 22 (lb) lighter than a conventional 60 Ah lead battery.

I believe that's Li-ion and not SLA.

A few dozen of those would really be nice for a plug in hybrid!

I meant for Starting, Lights & Accessories. But I could see how it's confusing. I'll take it out of the title.

Braille already makes a 6lb AGM battery, and it's only $140. So this really is more money than brains.

Spend $2900 to save 10 kgs?
Ah no thanks.
I'll save it some other way.

Cheers , Pete.

I've always known "SLA" to mean sealed lead-acid when refering to batteries. But I'm easily confused anyway...

Enginer makes an equivalent that weighs the same but costs less than 1/10 the price and has more capacity.

I was wrong twice!

It's "SLI" --- for starting, lights & ignition. It's right there in the linked article.

But it doesn't say "Porsche" on it.

Nifty, I'd never buy it, but if you have ever been to SEMA, you know there is a market for stuff like this.
