Hinge it at the trailing edge of the roof. Lift it up, then open the trunk.

Designed properly, it would help straightline speed and fuel economy. Not sure about stability though (rear lift).

The complete opposite happened to my car. We got a half inch of icy snow overnight. The afternoon sun warmed it up just enough that it slid off the hood and piled up on the front bumper like a beach blanket. Wish I could've watched it as it was sliding!

Probably the easiest way to get a nice-looking, smooth hinge is to just let the middle section bend. If you have a fiberglass or lexan piece with a gentle bend across the top and the edges bent down, you can bond the whole front edge to the roof, and then cut two t-shaped slots in from the edges near the top. When you lift at the back, the center section, between the tops of the "T"s will buckle to flat and make a fine hinge, and still snap back to give good beam stiffness when down.

Assuming for the moment that you find a match, you *could* mount a roof spoiler and build the hinge off that :

This would give you a "foundation" for quick mount/dismount of the kamm-back. The mounting holes would be in the spoiler (no leaky into roofy).
