Motor Mouth: Hypermiling is a fool’s gold

David Booth's take on hypermiling. There's even a reference to ecomodder. It ain't pretty.

So the guy that pitches new cars for a living doesn't like people trying to get all they can from what they currently have, by using some common sense? Huh, well I didn't see that one coming. I actually wrote for an automotive publication years ago, I even got paid for it. Cripes, if I can do it, anyone can, as evidenced by this clod lol.

You know, I have learned that when someone links something, I will be able to gather enough information from the comments to not need to read it.

Frank, thanks for taking one for the team!

The moment he tore into the "drive as if you have no brakes" mantra, you know that he was being an idiot for the sake of being an idiot. Completely misconstruing the rule simply to make a point that isn't there.

Not that there isn't advice on the internet that's unsafe and illegal... but if he's picking on ecomodder for the sound advice of "driving barefoot" (indeed, many racing drivers preach using the thinnest shoes possible to maximize pedal feel and modulation, for other reasons... so this isn't a "hypermiler" thing), you know he's smoking crack.

I just hate the fact that he is spewing misinformation to the general public.

Well, he does that on a weekly basis. Accuracy is often sacrificed on his soapbox.

I've been reading this guy regularly for years. He's an avowed old school motorhead who cries about the growing industry focus on efficiency and whines about how it's ruining his fun. Anyone interested in hybrids, EV's or fuel saving tech is labeled an 'enviro weenie'.

Think of a whiny Clarkson wanna-be minus the sense of humour and you'd be pretty close.

I find dinosaurs interesting!

Also interesting: they closed the comments on the day that was published. Not sure if it was the 3rd comment (spam) or the 4th (ridiculing the writer) that did it.

Also interesting to note that you can anonymously upvote comments, but to downvote you have to be signed in.

I upvoted the last one, ridiculing the author.
