Hello from Sweden (1999 Suzuki Swift 1.3l/5spd

Hey,

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and say that this forum/board is quite fantastic. It's really set my mind to driving more passively, and with FE in mind.

~ 4 months ago I bought a 1999 Suzuki swift 5 door with a 1.3liter, 4 cyl 5 speed engine in it.
It's only covered About 65000 miles (10k km) but is sadly not winning the game against rust and corrosion.

I've seen there are a few (2) Swifts with the 1.3/5spd here on the forum. I'm just about to start reading some posts, and eager to see what we can achieve with these cars!

As long as the driveline is OK you can either try to save the whole car, enjoying the opportunity to aeromod its body, or to swap it into another small car.

If you'd try to save it, I'd recommend you to cut its rotten parts away, repaint it to keep all the sheetmetal covered by the rustproofing primer and some paint, then patch it with fiberglass.

Hello and welcome. The Swift is the European version of the GeoMetro, so there should be lots of folks here that are able to guide you.

Wow - now 3 Swifts with the same drivetrain. You can form a little club.

Welcome to the forum!

Your car has this body style?

Yes, but mine is a sad faded red one. Come summer and I'll try to get it buffed out. The 5 door version is a bit more roomy, giving it some practicality

I actually made a small mistake, it's 65000 miles, not 6500...
Non the less, for a 14 year old car that's not too bad.

Oh, a 4 door!! A neighbor down the street had one of those for awhile, but the older style - and a Metro. I wonder if that style is more aerodynamic than the short 2-door (more "fineness ratio", or whatever they call it)? More "wetted area" too though, so I wonder which wins out. ???

They stopped selling that body style here in 1994, in favour of the 2-door hatch only (like my black car). It's interesting you could get it up to 2000.

I think they were produced until 2004 in Europe, but I cannot find anyone newer than 2001 in Sweden. They are actually not so common here. I guess the road salt we use in the winters tears these cheap small cars apart.
Sadly that makes spares quite expensive. Just got quoted on a used front grille, and it's $60. Dunno if I'm just cheap, but I feel I can live without it.
Will have to fiberglass repair the front bumper when the outside temperatures increease, and maybe also patch some of the openings up while doing so...

I have MOT this week, hoping they won't catch anything bad.
