I'm pretty confident that one of those Chinese import air cooled engines will suck in sufficient air with it's built in scavenger fan and vent it out the other side . If there is sufficient opening ....and there will be ... under the front of the fairing. The engine will be open to the front wheel enclosure.

The calculator at the top of the page gives my design about 1.5 litres / 100 km if the cd is .55 which MIGHT be possible to achieve .A cd of .65 gives 1.77litres / 100km with a 5hp requirement all at 50mph or 80 kmph.

Allert's bike would easily achieve his goal of 1litre / 100km if it used a diesel. By my calculation reworked from the data he supplies I calculate he would achieve .8litres per 100km or 300mpg US.

Talk about too much area and mass beyond the wheels and too much skin!

I'm pretty sure he now has achieved the 1litre / 100km ,he posted 235 mpg us,the BMW Simple concept showed 2litre /100km which is about 117mpg us ,it has a cd of 0.18,I'm sure your right,300mpg us is possible.Whats amazing is he still has big improvements he could make.the amount of air getting upset in his wheel opening's,bottom of bike is worth a lot of mpg

watching the early design of the Ecomobile being tested, they set up some blowers and had the Ecomobile drive past,it counter steered, the bike moved away then turned into the direction of the sidewind loading.Dan White had said that he was coming out of a right hand turn at 75 mph in his Ecomobile, encountering some wind loading from the right side,he found himself turning left while going right. The streamlining has to be right to avoid blow overs,I'm guessing rounded front, long wheelbase, some venting, scoops, etc.

I am guessing that if you add a clattery air cooled diesel even if the engine is isolated by a firewall, you won't hear the traffic around you.

Perhaps someone who has built or ridden one can add. Might make a good case for having the engine water cooled and somewhat isolated from the rider.
I spoke with Craig Vetter at the 2011 Mid Ohio ride about his Alcan fairing. I was mulling over the idea of putting it on my Dakar. He did say that it does reflect every engine noise back at the rider. He has used the white closed cell foam as sound deadening as well as bulkheads. Its light weight, holds its shape decent and works well to cut the noise.

From what I've read, the last Vetter fairing doesn't have the buffeting you get from just slaping a windshield on a bike and it's actually pretty quiet in the bubble of air there in the middle. But I haven't actually riden in one.

I saw a posting where he had gone 234 mpg USA,1 liter/100Km.I'm hoping those with the money start to realize the incredible vehicles that could be built right now,put in production and sell in the thousands. As of right now,the best technology would be a narrow 4 wheeled tilting, enclosed,Monotracer type ,with a door each side or a single door with a push out roof panel. The VW XL1 ,which is going into limited production, has explosive bolts on the hinges incase of a roll over[gullwing doors won't open when your upside down.]The Quad 4 is a start in the right direction,it is a open design,so fuel milelage wion't be what Europeans need, but just maybe someone will see the writing on the wall and do some testing.I wonder what the future holds ?

The liquid cooled 722cc 3 cyl. Kubota would be my first choice for a diesel engine.

Kubota D722 engine D 3cyl 13.5hp 722CC ? OK, but 18 hp would be good, the 13.5hp would be OK but acceleration would be pretty slow .

Kubota D950 engine 3cyl 927CC 17hp /2800rpm

Do you have the engine weights ?
