Actually I was thinking it might make it trickier. I'm thinking nothing would want to bolt together, and spacing with the shroud might not work out.
I prefer the idea of electric fans, like found on '05 and up 1500s, but I think you could make electric fans off a number of vehicles work

A trip to the junkers would be a good place to start, you can get the fans and possible the switches. If you stay with the same truck manufacturer you may be able to get a fan that fits better then O.J's glove.

You are going to want to control a fan that big with a relay not a toggle switch.

i had a nice fiberglas one but cracked it rockcrawling and it got carried away in deep snow.

on the old TBI's, the distributor sets ignition timing. When the timing chains stretch over time, the ignition ends up being retarded.

loosen the bolt, and you can gain mileage by simply advancing the timing.

For more power there is a writeup somewhere to remove the spacer between air filter and TB - this lets air come in under the injectors easier, and gets more power. Won't help the mileage though.

I've got teh same truck - mine is a 94 and it rides lower, but same setup.

I'm going to be building a removable kammback which sits on the rear hitch. I'll report back as to how it works.

2000mc I am going electricfans when I get some funds, thermo controled

Ecomodded, I was thinking the same thing thanks.

Oilpan I am thinkng twin fans wired straight off the battery thermostaticly controled to come on when the temp starts getting too high then the second if the first cannot handel the heat load.

Mgb-mpg the push bar hassaved the front of my truck once, (small deer)it is staying on, I may try to improve its aero though.

Drmiller, intrested to see what you do, I was thinking about a kamback 2.

it is well established that an airfoil shaped strut will have less drag than a round one .. one could fabricate trailing edges for those upper bars.. effect would minimal except for visual .. a little thought on the fabrication could shoot the air flow up towards the top of the windscreen ..idk if that is good thought for aero FE but keeping the bugs off the glass is worth something

im looking for some of that 12 inch flower bed rubber edger for my air dam.. then agin maybe just fabricate from Tin[ thin sheet alum.
im told by those who know the best config is a vertical , don't need no splitter
but with light weight sheet i worry about it withstanding the dynamic pressures.

It would be good to get the whole stock system that controls the fans, possible a two fan system, have them on a thermostat switch , disconnect one of them in the winter, as they have a high amp draw, 10 to 20 amps. They will indeed need a relay.
To clarify, as i was not clear at all.
i was suggesting to grab the whole fan system with its switches ,thermostats and such, you are right, it needs the relays.

The stock fan system in GM vehicles these days is controled by the ECM.
They dont use temperature switches and relays like the good old days any more.
