75mpg US in standard Skoda Fabia

I've not yet made any ecomods to my car, but I've been keeping an eye on the on-board fuel computer and comparing it to the real tank-to-tank mpg.

Best commute to date is 75mpg (US). Best tank is much lower though, at 55mpg (US). (That's 89mpg and 66mpg imperial)

Quite impressed with that, compared to an official mpg of 60 imperial!

Congrats Simon, that is awesome fuel economy.

Your small diesel engines tempt me more and more every day to import one and drop it into a small car here...

Daox, can you do that though ? Will it be allowed on public roads or just for your back yard
The more I think why they don't have small engined cars in the US and small diesels in passenger cars the more the word "conspiracy" comes to mind

Why not import the whole car ?

Fabia is about the same size as a Fiesta so...

Ford Fiesta TDCi - Ebay France

European Fester is the same as the US one except we don't get the one with a boot just the hatch so far. France is LHD like the US. You probably would need to get a UK or US spec speedo as that has MPH and KMH markings, some cars in Europe only have KMH markings.

Apart from engine and transmission parts (filters, belts, clutches etc.) you should be able so source stuff from Ford in the US and the rest online. One thing is that the Diesel fester is manual only.

Which is not a bad thing...

I'd love to drive a Euro turbodiesel into an American service garage and see the looks on the crew's faces. "Um, sir, I think I've found your problem: There is no ignition signal."
But seriously, importing something from the VW group wouldn't be too bad, since North America has a few TDi's, but Ford? Or GM/Opel/Vauxhall? While you're importing there should be a second engine in the trunk for spare parts. Service stations may not even have the diagnostic software to service an engine that's not sold in the US, let alone the parts. Time and $$$.
Hopefully this will change.

Why ford ? Well just seemed like an idea to have a car sold in the US about the same size as the Fabia for other parts availability but you are right about the need for diagnostic equipment. A code reader and google may go some of the way though if you wrench yourself.
