My first 800+ mile tank

Hey guys,

just a thanks to those who put this together, Ive gone from (with my normal driving style) a MPG figure of 38 (US) to a stonking 53.7mpg (US) (ok I admit my previous driving style was 'sporty' ) My goal of getting 70 UK MPG ( 58.3 US) is looking actually realistic!

Car is as yet unmodified save for increased tyre pressures and adjusting the nut behing the wheel.

Bring on the mods!

(The tank was a bit more motorway than usual (550miles of the tank), however thats exactly the trips I bought this car for )

Onwards.....

Get an economy ground cam, advance the timing if you can, and get a 4-2-1 exhaust header

Dont think a more economy cam exists!
4-2-1...... its a turbo diesel

I COULD advance the pump timing on the injector pump. I know people do this for performance. Might have to find out about that...... got lots of aero mods first on the list though And PAS delete

I think you can adjust the nut a bit more. Great work!

Will an MPGuino work on a diesel? I'd think it would work if the car has electronic fuel injection. If you don't already have a real-time mpg gauge, my opinion is getting one is a real benefit.

(The 'Guino also requires an electronic speed signal, but I'm assuming a '94 has that instead of an old fashioned spinning cable.)

Its a mechanical diesel pump no electronics, so no instant guage. Shame as it would be nice to get definitive A-B-A tests going on, but oh well!

and that should be 1100 KGs not 1100 lbs!! My bad She's still quite light for her size as she's old and a base model Having said that, ALL my tanks have been with the car loaded to the brim (Necessary loads)

mcmancuso.... you can advance the injection pump timing, which can give a bit more power I believe but I dont know much about it I must confess

Ive had to replace the wheels with some that will hurt the mileage quite badly I reckon (wider, less overall diameter) as Im a bit skint at the moment and I dont trust the rear tyres (cracked and worn). But we shall see what the figures say. Im enjoying experimenting!
