NASA's Environmentally Responsible Aviation (ERA) project is pioneering new green technologies for the aviation industry. Technologies to reduce fuel consumption, aircraft noise and low-carbon aircraft.
Technologies include; new composite material fabrication, engine efficiency improvements, special outer coatings to reduce weight and air drag from insect strikes/splatter, weight reduction by recommending shorter tail fins with embedded air nozzles for better control, morphing wing shapes with multiple sealing flaps to close all flap/body gaps (reduces noise and efficient surfaces) and new hybrid wing body shapes.
