I had a Daihatsu Charade (3 cyl, 1 liter) that I gave to my son that I would otherwise recommend -- great car, durable, efficient. However, parts are absolutely astronomical and hard to find. He rebuilt the engine and we had parts coming in from all corners of the world.

Boy, if I had an excuse to get a Honda 600, I'd snap it up. (Although I imagine they can be hard to get parts for, too.)

Civic hatchback?

We like the look of the Daihatsu... honestly, the Rabbit, Charade, Justy, and early 80's Civic hatch all look about like the same car. I guess the Metro was one of the last (and newest) cars built in that form factor?

It would seem that a mid '80's diesel or gas Jetta wouldn't be too hard to find.

How about the Chevy Nova (corolla), a Chevy 3cyl. Sprint, '78-'80 Ford Fiesta,
Datsun B210's, Omni/Horizen '80's Dodge charger many mid '60's Ramblers w a stick
can get 30mpg.

Have owned 2 Honda 600 Coupes... Honda quality wasn't quite so great then (in cars)
I have a '60's Honda sedan service manual if someone is interested.

A '70's Plymouth Arrow could be interesting.
