I posited that 'disappat[ing] the exhaust without slowing it' might achieve that. The only analog I can recall is a trumpet mute.

Now I've moved on to wonder about
cymatics.
edit: on the Beetle I found the model but not the .MTL file so it lost the colors and textures. I've cut away the back window and deck lid and mocked up the Coanda nozzle, but now it seems I need to master Curve to Mesh operations to move forward.
