Yuck! Instead of gas guzzlers, they'd have people driving watt-guzzlers, and where's the benefit in that?

Hadn't thought about that. Maybe if you had a solar garage to juice the thing up...

Do the pizza pan wheel covers offset the otherwise unaerodynamic front end?

It's definitely a monster. More efficient than the gasoline version of course, but still an energy hog.

That said, I think the key thing is that Young can bring the message of alternative powertrain options to a wide audience.

Their site has some decent info: LINC VOLT - Repowering The American Dream - Fueled By Design

I think their problem's right in the link title. "Repowering the American Dream"? Cars like that are only in my nightmares. Though I suppose it's a reflection on a certain segment of American culture. Me, I'd rather be a ninja than a champion sumo wrestler :-)

And now for the nightmare ending to the "public attitude changing" goals these guys had with the LincVolt:

Neil Young warehouse blaze started in hybrid 'LincVolt' car

Quote:
The three-alarm blaze that caused $1.1 million in damage to a warehouse filled with rock legend Neil Young's music equipment and memorabilia appears to have started in a one-of-a-kind hybrid car stored at the site, a fire official said Monday.

Flames began in a 1959 Lincoln Continental dubbed LincVolt, which runs on electric batteries and a biodiesel-powered generator, and then spread to the warehouse...

...the exact cause of the fire is still being probed, it seems "to be an operator error that occurred in an untested part of the charging system," Young wrote in a statement.

What a sad ending to this story. Maybe just as well since the numbers seemed a bit off base.

Glad no one was hurt in the fire.

"It's better to burn out, than to fade away..."

Sorry I could not resist that line from a Neil Young song.

sad to hear

but i wished he went in another direction with it

theres a ton of good diesel engines out there but the ones that speak to me are in the

VW TDI and the Mercedes W123 Diesels

and diesel is good, but biodiesel is better with waste veggie oil being the best!

someone makes a solid hybrid that runs on biodiesel/wvo and ill fork out the cash

LOLZ!!!!

For one thing, it was built by a scam artist and heavily promoted. Then...

For some strange reason, performance, or really... ANYTHING, was never said about it after it was supposedly finished. Then...

Silence... Then...

"A Mysterious Fire".

Right.

Oh Frank, such a cynic.

Go visit jaylenosgarage.com - coincidentally, the car was just displayed at SEMA, so they did a video about it. Talks about some of its "performance" stats (EV range is mentioned).

I always assumed the reason they weren't giving out too much info was because they were also in filming a documentary about the car, and didn't want to give it all away.
