Ahh Trojan. The only car company to make cars with solid tyres. Key catchphrase - 'Cheaper than Walking'...

Killed by the RE - Rear Engined - what were they thinking ?

I can imagine that rubberbands wouldn't have a long life in an automotive environment. I once wondered about using a spring instead of a starter.

I would imagine that the energy input to wind a rubber band compared to what you get out is quite large and like a garage door spring, if you have a rubber band or a spring in your car brake... you have enough energy to, as the old magazine says, push you up to 3 miles! that energy is being released all at once! if the chain drive on a motorcycle brakes it can destroy the crank case of the engine, imagine the energy stored in enough gasoline to move you 3 miles all lit on fire at once, it would be about the same as the energy stored in a rubber band that could do the same amount of work.

yeah, but I prefer them for, er, you know.

PW - I also suggested clockwork as a method of Hybrid power. I still think it would work....

...but I am mad

um, wouldn't the energy required to wind it be less than the energy released? What is wrong with pedals and a chain in that application?

I wonder the size and weight required for a spring wound starter would be? Hard to get a jump start, I suppose.

Or would a pogo stick be a good vehicle to jump off of?
