Turtle New Car- Vaz 2111

Hi, it's been a while.

I bought this car, a Vaz 2111, a basic-level station wagon.

Made in russia by AvtoVaz, a car for bad road conditions.

It's a 2003 year model, it's a very, VERY basic model.

No airbag(not even optional) no ABS, not even a radio (yet) but it has a standard OBD to pass E.U emissions requirement

It uses 33mpg @ 75mph, the aerodynamics is the reason here, as the engine's design was about 20 year old technology.

Spares cost next to nothing.

It has a 1,5 l 8-valve engine with 70Bhp, and the car weighs around 1020kilograms.

I am planning to mod a warm air intake, and maybe block the grille (easy job)

The positive thing is, that this car can handle ethanol to about 40% without any problems or mods

This car is also super-easy to fix, for example the Camshaft belt takes half an hour to change

We'll see what we get ouf of it.

Oh, and the engine's electronics is made by bosch.

Seems to be the same engine which was made by Fiat in Brazil. BTW is it fitted with a single-point or a multi-point EFI?

I guess it can handle more than 40% ethanol

Wikipedia says this about the Lada 111 / VAZ-2111:
Quote:
VAZ-2111 station wagon offers more opportunities for baggage than the sedan or hatchback, but it is a city car with "soft" suspension and is not designed for operation with an overload, or regular use on bad roads.
Sorry take care on those roads.

I don't know why you say that... Can you explain why you think it makes no sense?

It runs on the same platform of the sedan and the hatchback, so a "softier" suspension doesnt't make sense at all. Anyway, wagons are also supposed to be more on the "utilitarian" side, so they would actually be more prone to feature an improved suspension setup.

That's a spiffy little wagon. There are quite a few people here that would go for something like that. Best of luck with it!

Ah, it probably has the same suspension as the sedan, that's what they mean. And like other car types, most stations on the road carry just the driver and no luggage most of the time. In that light it does make sense.
