Here's my half. Geo and Isuzu were nixed, because they don't have any models 2009 or higher.
I didn't do the used car thing, either. Can be added later, I suppose.

Get something you can pay cash for. Save $1000 per year or something by not having comprehensive insurance.

Here is the combined list...I dummied it down from the half list Christ posted to just rank cars by cost per 1 mpg (even though his was much nicer than mine...I don't have time right now to make mine as pretty as his)! There are some makes that are listed as both 2009 and 2010 models but not much repetition of models on this list.
There are 187 cars on the list...Some interesting notes...
* The average car on the list costs $1246/1 mpg.
* Out of the 187 cars the top 100 in $/1mpg makes were: Toyota (7), Chevy (5), Hyundai (4), Kia (4), Honda (4), VW (4), Pontiac (3), Scion (3), Ford (3), Mazda (3), Nissan (2), Jeep (2), Smart (1), Suzuki (1), Dodge (1), Mercury (1), Subaru (1).
* In the Top 10 category the best bang for buck cars were: Toyota (2), Kia (2), Honda (2), Chevy (1), Smart (1), Hyundai (1), Pontiac (1)...I only counted the Aveo once in the Top 10 standings since the focus is on makes for this list.
Browse the list...feel free to send me any cars you do not see on the list and I'll add them.

Eh, I just used whatever information I came across easily on Vehix... the car make/model/base price were right there, and the MPG was just a click away.
I actually used excel formulas to calc the average MPG and cost/MPG, if you check the file, you'll see it.

Matt,
The $9990 Nissan Versa with 6 speed MT and 1.8 L engine rated 28 mpg combined would come in #3 behind the Smart and the Hyundai Accent. Seems like a list like this should include the #3 car!
