Cool New Guy from California.

Hi everybody.

New guy from Glendale, CA driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L Regular Cab 5-Speed Manual Truck. I'm currently averaging 24.8 MPG and with the help of this site looking to get more.

I don't have any mods per se just an Amsoil "High Performance (yeah right)" Air filter, free flowing Borla muffler, and using Synthetic Mobil 1 Oil everywhere possible (even in the rear end).

I just landed a new job that is 30.2 miles away (one way), I know, I know, I couldn't find anything closer, and with all the L.A. traffic my commute is roughly 90% freeway usage and averaging 24.8 MPG.

I currently employ some of these hypermiling tricks that I have never heard of until today (who would of knew I was a hypermiler before even knowing it). Such as, coasting to a stop, not using cruise control (I don't have one from the factory), over inflating my tires as well as checking them weekly to adjust accordingly, and keeping with routine maintenance on my truck.

I look forward to interacting with all of you and learning as much as possible.

Welcome. Get your fuel log going if you're not already tracking your MPG regularly. Have you got yourself a ScanGauge yet?

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

As far as a ScanGuage2 goes, it's on my list of things to buy. I saw one awhile ago and thought, "why would I need one of these?" Then gas prices went through the roof and now I think, "man, why didn't I get one earlier to save gas?"

I do currently track my gas expenditures, but after each fill up I throw away the paper that has the previous tanks numbers. Thanks to EcoModder now I have a place to log it electronically.

SVOboy: I'll look into a bed cap. From my understanding they can get pretty expensive. Not to mention, getting it painted to match the trucks color.

Thanks again everybody.
