Smile New Member from downunder

Hey Guys my name is Matt Cole.
Yes, I'm from downunder.
Yes, we do have cars down here.
And yes, they do burn petrol which ain't getting cheaper.
This looks like the place to get clues on converting my little Toyota to a EV so I hope you all dont mind if I ask questions from time to time

Thanks...Matt

Hey ex-x-fire,
My toyota '93 model is, what we call down here, a Paseo not sure if its badged the same up there.
Its a small 4 seat coupe kerb weight of about 900kg. Body and interior in good cond., motor tired
On the plus side-It owes me nothing, is light, aerodynamic.
On the neg side- its currently auto, pwr steer and windows, but I can deal with that.
Being an Auto tech for the last 25 yrs and a electrician for 6yrs before that I figure I can give a EV conversion a 'good shake'.
The controller developed in the 300 page thread looks excellent to me.
SH fork dc motor and , initially lead acid batteries to about 144v sounds like a plan, and I am already working on a converted hi power alternator for regen.
(I have a 350m mountain to climb over in my 100km round-trip daily commute + inter-urban traffic).
Since I live up near the equator I'm even considering cutting the roof out to recess 2 PV panels into but havent done any sums on that yet.
You see any problems there?
All comments appreciated
Matt...................
