Hi there!
With the cost of fuel in the UK roughly at £1.30 per litre (Thatís roughly in your money $8 per US gallon!) it makes sense now more than ever that I try and learn the best ways to achieve the best return for fuel I put into my car.
So what do I drive? Well itís a British sports hatch back, the MG ZR which is powered by a lean burning K Series engine in a 1.4l guise. Official economy figures on 95 RON fuel are roughly:
31 mpg urban,
51mpg extra urban
41mpg combined

Obviously, Iím not hitting these figures that often, which is what brings me here! I hope thereís a lot I can learn from you guys, and I hope to have some fun whilst Iím here too!

As always, wading through the efficiency mods and hypermiling tips is a good start.

See what you're already doing, see what you could easily do, see what you're comfortable with to try it out.

A grille block and increased tyre pressure are about the most widespread modifications.
Coasting down is one of the more popular techniques - wether with the engine off or on.

Seeing it's a lean-burn engine, try to spend as much time as possible in lean-burn mode. Look of the boundaries of the lean-burn, and try to expand the lean-burn envelope with your mods.

On sports hatches, the hatch spoiler is usually dubious.
It might work for you, improving mpg, but it might very well work against you.
You might want to try closing the gap between the spoiler and the roof, and turn it into a roof extension.

A warm air intake will generally help a car stay in lean burn for longer.

Hi bud, I'm in the UK too.

Petrol prices are silly now...

I'm running a 21 year old MX5 and the best I could get was 33mpg.

However, I've adjust my driving and calculated my distance and mpg better and Im actually getting 43.45mpg on my last run!

Best thing I've started doing so far is only filling half a tank at a time, I fill up twice as much, but I'm only ever running with less then 20lts of weight in the car...
