Carb Adjustment...

Hey, Charlie B! One kind-of GENERAL rule on carburetors was that you screw in the jet until you notice rpms dropping, and back out a quarter to half turn. Idle jets can be done at idle, main jets at 2 grand or so...

Of course, that may have been idle jets only. I didn't do driveability work at the dealership, and later on it was all computerized...

Maybe someone will jump in here and rightfully straighten me out on that.

Of course, if you screw the jet in all the way, and the car still runs: rebuild the carb!

In Australia this car is known as a Datsun 120Y and there is still quite a number of them on the road, rarely in the condition of yours tho'

Some people even race them !

wow a lot of responces over the weekend. i am going to study these post for some time because it's a lot to take at once! i did get a good tune on the carb as this weekend with some tips from this thread. i took the car to a vintage japanese car meet . i was so busy checking out and cleaning everything that i was late and didn't even think about milage. but i only had a quater tank and i drove all the way there and back without coming near running out. it was over 100 miles round trip, plus i took a deter cruise with some friends. so i say i got great milage already. after i study up some more i could easily break 50 mpg if i uses hypermiling techniques combined with all the mechanical tips i am recieving. thanks!
tetsuo-i love the 120y's because they have the proper bumpers for the car. in the seventies americans had to deal with the bumper safety regulations that just ruined a lot of cars styling, esp. foreign cars.
