Finally

Finally got the Blue Slug on the road, I bought a 2006 Honda Insight last year that had taken out 2 deer. After lots of body work and parts it was inspected a couple of weeks ago and licensed. If not for all the reading I had been doing about the car and its capabilities I would not be anywhere near the level I have gotten from the car so far. On a recent work day I drove about 300 miles and the meter on the dash says 71.9 mpg. Have done no aero mods as of yet and in fact is missing some of the under body panels. I cant wait to make a few improvements and see what I can do with her.

My job has me traveling all over north central Iowa driving anywhere from 150 to 550 miles per day. I had been driving a Sonata and averaging 33 mpg with it. Because of time constraints I cant really do much hypermiling. I run 55 on the back roads and 65 ( a little under the speed limit ) while on the interstate. The other night on the way back home from my last job and with no to light traffic I decided to try a little hypermiling, for the 58 miles home I averaged 84.7 mpg. Roughly 2/3 gallon with this car compared to the almost 2 gallons it would have taken with my old car. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the Blue Slug and I

Congrats, welcome, and I envy you! I'm guessing with those numbers that it's a 5-speed and not a CVT?

Yes it is the 5 speed manual, I love it except it is a little gutless on the hills especially when it is in lean burn, have been reading about turbo charging on insight central, sounds very interesting.

Welcome, and congratulations. If you're driving that much, you certainly have the right car for the job.

I find that the car has plenty of power for its mass; you just have to downshift to get to it. This car's unconventionally tall gearing saves gas overall, but it means there are hills you can not climb in 5th or even 4th. Good luck with your Insight, and let us know what kind of mods, if any, you have planned.

I want to do a nice belly pan for it soon, I was reading a post earlier and it looked like he used foam insulation cut to fit,

Yes some days I spend more time driving than I would like, The worst day was 755 miles and still fixed 9 computers that day, started at 7:30 am and got home at 12;30 that night. I do warranty repairs for many different companies In the north central Iowa area with my area being about 150 miles wide and 80 miles north to south. Overall way too much driving.

Yep last year wrote off almost 50,000 miles, this year will probably be pretty close, although the mileage rate is going down because of lower gas prices.

50.000 x 0.5$ = OMG !!!

That's the price of a new Insight
