New product from Doug Pelmear's HP2g

You may remember Doug Pelmear's claim of a 110mpg Mustang discussed a while back on these forums.

He has a new product out called "Skip Fire". Its supposed to increase the MPG of big rigs by 1/3.

I'm don't know enough about the subject to comment, but I thought you guys would be interested.

He has figured out that he can get people even stupider than him to throw money at him, and the media is the stupidest of all- they'll promote anything.

My question is, I'm not aware that he's been sued for fraud, and I wonder why?

I don't know if he was actually sued, but he was in danger of losing his patents on the 110mpg engine because of defaulting on a $50,000 loan with Henry County Ohio. I don't know if he ever paid or not. Henry County was to become the owner of the patents, but there has been little news coverage.

He might be on to something. Something. But 1/3 savings? NNnnnnoooooo.

I like the part where he explains how air hits the "2500 degree piston" and expands. I'd like to see a 2500 degree piston. I'm betting it would be liquid hot magma.

Pistons and cylinders don't get very hot, thanks to the magic of heat transfer. And that is the flaw in his thinking. But he is probably richer than me.......

Not likely. If he had to shut down his supposed engine production facility, and if he's in danger of defaulting on his loan, then I'd say he's not doing very well off.

I wonder how he is able to deactivate the valves for the cylinders he is to be shutting off?

He isn't. He is only shutting the fuel off. That's his premise for economy. When in "skip mode", the cylinder still draws in cold air and when this air hits the "2500 degree piston", it expands, providing some free power. Right.

A quick google shows that this may also be used on locomotives. It shows a different patent holder. The assingee is CSXT Intellectual Properties Corporation.

Locomotive engine with skipfire control system

It may have some merit.

After all, cylinder deactivation can help fuel economy.
