New Rear Bearings

Noise started coming from the rear of the car. Checked the tires for uneven wear, and settled on the drivers side rear bearing going bad. Was glad I had my local mechanic replace the hub and bearing on both sides because he had to drill out a couple bolts in the process.

End result, I have to recalibrate my coasting distances! I started arriving at the lights/stops way too fast, and need to start coasting a lot farther from them. Guess the bearing was going silently bad for a while until it became noticeable. I'm really hoping this helps the city driving I've been doing lately.

I remember trying to find oil bath hubs back in the day for the Festiva to try to increase the length of coast, but I couldn't ever find ones for it.

Once I get my kill switch hooked up on the Insight and end up coasting a lot I might even look for oil bath hubs for this car.

A before/after test would have been good to do. I do know that on one specific stop I would "normally" start coasting at the flashing light warning of the stop ahead. Now I can start coasting at the speed limit sign about 200 feet ahead of the flashing sign. This is at a speed of about 40 mph. So my coasting distance has increased considerably with the new bearings. This is E "on" C because of the auto trans.
