UG error while calibrating...

Hello,

I've had the UG on for a few days now, seems like an awesome tool. I love it.

I went to calibrate the distance after reading it's beneficial, and especially knowing that what the speedo indicates is a little quicker than actual. My GPS states 55mph when speedo says 57mph. I'm leaning towards trusting the GPS there. Car has stock tires with fewer than 10k miles.

I parked, reset the trip B odometer just to compare, I went to the menu and reset all trip gauges then started my 1 mile drive. Used the GPS to measure distance.

Where I ran into an issue is when I stopped at 1 mile and went to the calibrate menu, then calibrate distance but I got an error "No distance to calibrate" or something very similar. I then paged over to the distance traveled and it said .96. So it does seem to be functioning and was reset for the test.

Any ideas? Thanks!

My guess is that you need to go farther before you can calibrate. The farther you go, the better your readings will be.
Is the speedo reading high the car's, the Ultragauge's, or both? All the vehicles I've used my Ultragauge have read higher on the car's speedo, but the odometer between the two is correct. Manufactures probably have the speedo read a little high on purpose, so they can't be blamed for someone speeding.

Great point, I cut it short because 2 miles would have left me on a stretch I couldn't stop on safely. But with the GPS I guess I could do 2.6 if I needed and input that just the same on the UG. Will try again today.

It is the car's speedo that appears to be high, I assume also just for safety's (aka speeding ticket's!) sake the manufacturer does that.

You need to go way farther. Try a 50 mile trip or something. The more miles the better, as you will see a greater difference between the two.

Great point, I don't know why I was keeping it that low. It makes sense to make the trip as long as possible to accentuate that difference and minimize effects of other inputs (error on GPS, etc). Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

I spend the last .1 miles edging along the side of the road, waiting for the GPS to tick over, not wanting to overshoot. Bet it looked funny.

Getting excited for the trip down, ~3700 miles, should get some good numbers.
