New Smaller SAAB, Possibly with MINI engines

News about new SAAB 9-2 (I hope they give it a better name). Pictures and story from CAR magazine.

New car looks much nicer than the recent models

And looks kind of similar to the original SAAB prototype.

I hope they do this, it would wipe away the bad memories of the GM based uninspiring cars they have made since the mid 90s.

I also wish they would return to the original model idea for aero, keep the weight down and use a Lupo / Polo Bluemotion stylee 3cyl TDI that would be a cool car. What it loses on acceleration would more than be made up on long legged, low fuel consumption cruising.

The argument would be that there isn't enough profit per car in smaller cars, but the MINI isn't doing badly in that sector.

And hopefully I can remove the translation of SAAB = Prat that I have in my head whenever I'm cut up or tailgated by one with an overinflated view of its performance at the moment

I kind of like the front, no grill and so on. Not sure the low-ness of it can work in the real world after Renault had all those problems with water being taken into the engine when they tried low intakes...

It is still a hell of a lot better than anything since the 9000 IM(NV)HO. I would consider that, I would not consider anything else SAAB since 1989.

The engine air intake is probably in the fender, or wheel well.

I can see tumble weeds, and trash clogging up the radiator though.

I like the original SAABs a lot. When Idly wondering about building my own eco car, I combine the chassis of a 2CV, a smal TDI Engine and long gearing with the style of the original SAABs.
