New TSA Battery Regulations -- Yay!

I heard this and just about lost it:

http://safetravel.dot.gov/whats_new_batteries.html

Along with my mini toothpaste, one-squirt shave cream, and Blistex in a separate plastic bag, now I have to fart around with camera or other lithium batteries when I fly??? ARGH!

The validity of some of this stuff is

So, the IRS and TSA are tied for the "most loved" government agency. I can see why.

It's not even the inconvenience for me, it's people who don't get it in the line, and it backs up. So what are they going to do, make people throw away $100 battery packs? /Rant

Way I read it you just can't bring spares. If they're installed it ok. I'm sure they will have a lot of complaints from people returning from holiday. The IRS and TSA, yea both need to be reworked desperatly. To the road warrior my condolences. Yet airline are doing a booming business.

Faa

I think they really need to focus on getting ATC and Tower-Ground communications beefed up. Money from separate pots I suppose. I'm sure you read the article that the NASA/FAA Pilot Survey is being made public. Ground stuff concerns me the most right now -- incursions, etc. We just had a United 757 get stuck in the mud here at MCI. Wasn't the first time. I mean, how does that happen? Not paying attention, fatigue...?

Anyways, I understand batteries can short out and pose a fire risk, but has the NTSB had a case of this happening? Maybe it goes deeper into security issues that mere citizens aren't to know about. At any rate, I'm driving the next 2 weeks, so I'm sure I'll get the scoop on the transition from the news or folks at work before I take to the skies again...
