I rented a yaris sedan automatic in SoCal a couple of weeks ago (previous generation) and it got 34.7mpg over 300 miles (200 freeway at 70mph+ and 100 city). Over all very impressive BUT this is the most unstable car in cross winds that I've ever experienced short of an empty Econoline. It needs bigger tires or a shorter green house or both. Also the center mounted instrument cluster is stupid. I hope they fixed these problems on the newer Yaris.

i would consider a Prius C 3 door if they ever bring one to the US. Just needs to be lowered and bigger, stickier tires.

They did fix it for the newer cars, and I agree. I absolutely hate my center gauges.

Those gauges were one of the huge turnoffs of the minis for me.

The Yaris responds very nicely to wider tyres.

I've had one with 185 wide rubber on it (Michelin Pilot Exalto), and it drove like a kart and stopped on a dime !

I rented an AT Yaris hatch in New England & averaged ~42 mpg over 1200 miles in it. 50+ mpg should be a piece of cake with MT.
