Now, it IS true that cold weather diminished a battery's capacity - temporarily. The chemistry works that way. When the weather warms up again, it comes back to life. What I've experienced is a heat-damaged battery finally giving in when the cold comes - it was marginal in good weather, but not enough in the cold.
