Nissan Pickup (older hardbody)?

I have a 1995 Nissan Hardbody pickup.

I'm only getting 26mpg on it. It's my commuter and sees like 80% highway / 20% city driving.

Looking for ideas on improving the efficiency. Searched here but didn't find any posts where these were mentioned, so wondering if it's a lost cause as far as any significant increase in mpg's.

Thanks!

I think mostly you'll be well off using the 100+ hypermiling tips. As far as mods go? How far do you want to take it?

depends i guess on what i can realistically expect to get from the thing. major body or engine modifications aren't really of interest. i mean i'm all for tweaking and such... but major, complex, modifications are not in the cards really.

thanks for the link!

Basically, the more you put into it the more you get back. There are a few simple things that can really help such as a grill block and inflating your tires to the max sidewall pressure. However, after that it starts to become more work for less return. Driving techniques are really going to be the main way you gain FE. But, take a look at the aerodynamics forum. Since you drive a lot of highway you'll get a lot of good tips there that should help with your mileage.

I also have a '95 Nissan Pickup XE. It's a 5-speed with the 4-cyl KA24E. I moved from 25mpg to 27+ by hypermiling. Some of the techniques are harder to do with a manual transmission and the way traffic can be on the interstate. My biggest gain comes from trying to keep the RPMs under 2500. I can manage it most of the time.
