North Georgia Lurker

Greetings from the North Georgia Mountains, I have been lurking from the outside for a while since I found the forkenswift thread a couple months back. Also found out that all the things I've been doing pulse & glide and coasting downhill with motor off all has a name, so who knew; well obviously everyone here @ EM does. Anyhow I kept checking other threads out and decided to sign-up.

My hypermiling is done in a 1973 Datsun 620 PU 1.6L motor 3 speed auto w/PB odometer(293,000). Between doing a valve job & tune in summer 2007 and my new driving technique mileage has gone from 22.5mpg to 27mpg. Wish I could do coasting more on the way back home but it's all up hill; now going to town is about a 17 minute trip and I can do 9.5 minutes of it with the motor off.

I run a bodyshop here where I do mainly restorations and some insurance work. I never have time it seems to do my own projects, but on my dreaming list there is covert one of my lawn tractors to electric, convert a garden tractor to run on wood-gas, convert my 1978 Datsun 620 PU to electric (not the 73) it's going to have to have a good reserve to make it home and last convert 1975 Caddy 8.2 litter to wood-gas (Caddy runs perfect but @ 13mpg it's just to poor at mileage to start anything else even though I think with the addition of overdrive and hypermiling I could have a record setting 20+ mpg - just not worth it)

Just wanted to say this is a great site

Welcome to the site. Why do I have the idea that I've seen pics of your Datsun PU's recently? Posted links on the EVDL?

No EV yet! And the only place pics are posted is a Yahoo Group for 620's...

Been following your projects, good work.
