Not a new member, but have a new car

Just bought a 2020 Toyota Camry LE hybrid. The car comes stock with fairly good aero and a fineness ratio of 3.4 which is better than that of the Prius and the original Honda Insight. Right out of the box its getting indicated mpg's in the 50's to 70's in local driving and gets low 50's mpg at 70 mph on the interstate (haven't yet refueled to calculate the mpg).

Compared to the aerocivic, it gets about the same mileage in local lower speed driving, but worse mileage at highway speeds. Coasting is considerably worse at highway speeds and just slightly worse at lower speeds, even with its automatic glide control feature. Compared to the 2005 Prius I traded in, it is a larger, heavier, more powerful, and more comfortable car with lots of new safety features, but gets better mileage (low 50's as opposed to mid 40's on the highway) and about the same to slightly better mileage around town,

The main areas for aero improvement are to install a boat tail and front and rear wheel well covers. Drew up designs for both, but with the small amount of driving I do these days since I'm retired, gas prices will have to get much higher before their construction would be cost effective. In the interim, I'll likely replace the stock wheel covers with full moon hub caps.

sounds like a cool ride Good to hear from you.
It does not make sense to go all out in retirement, when the goal is usually "the trip combined" and the "trip not made".
Never hurts to dream out loud though. You just killed it with aerocivic.

Have you gotten rid of the Aerocivic after buying this, or do you still have it?

Camry hybrids are great cars. They've definitely increased their mileage potential compared to the earlier ones. Pretty sure the earlier Camry hybrids only got in the 30s real world driving from what I remember.

Curious, why a Camry Hybrid vs. a Prius?

Thanks for the confirmation that the EcoModder backend is borked. I see it in lack of notifications, and navigation failures. OTOH, out of boredom I clicked on Recent Posts and found this thread.

Congrats on the new ride. Even if you don't build the boat tail and skirts, we'd all love to see the plan (as they say). Some things are worth doing despite the ROI.

I went with the. camry hybrid rather than the prius because it was larger, faster accellarating car, with a more comfortable ride than the prius. I test drove both before selecting the camry.

I still have the aerocivic. I turned in the license plate on it to save on registration and insurance costs, but start it every week or two and drive it around on my farm's road network to keep it fully functional (along with a full tank of gas with Stabil and a solar battery saver). I'm open to donating it to a museum or to an interested individual who would be interested in it.
