Since I'm not a member,I'm uncertain as to what they get into.Chris intimated to me that they spend a great deal of time with solar energy,and aerodynamics would be a nice diversion for at least one of their meetings.

Wouldn't you agree that a windmill on top of a hemisphere will face higher windspeed than a windmill on a pole of equal height?

I'm uncertain about it.There could be an interference drag associated with the integration of the Darius Rotor to the top of the dome.Maybe some hook vorticity.If so,the air may find an easier pathway,and avoid the disruption,placing an asymmetrical load on the rotor vanes.
It would be worth some testing.

That picture is really poor, but it was handy. I suspect it would be shaped more like one of Colani's three-blade windshield wipers that sweep closely over the zenith. Else...

I now understand these are fixed vanes with a Darius rotor concealed underneath.

Then there's also R B Fuller's rotating ventilator with it's wind powered vacuum cleaner.
