That thing in your hand is a cable? Most common loose cable end I saw in Hondas was engine to chassis ground.

Maybe that car had its appendix removed by a previous owner?

That would be a loose plug, not cable.
Anyway, brake light sensor? Only thing in that area I could think of.
KSA, Honda civic HX doesn't come with cruise control sadly.

That looks to me like it belongs to the IACV, though that's a shared plug-end with a lot of other sensors.
You can be sure its mate is within reach of the cable, at least.

Ah nuts. I found pictures of the brake light and IACV connectors, as well as a zoomed-in picture of the loose appendix, but apparently I did it wrong or something.
It does not look like the picture of the reverse light switch that I found. I had planned on looking closer today, getting under the car, etc., but I was not able to work on it today.
