Only one fill-up for the year..

It's been a year since my last MA state inspection, and I've driven my Ford 353 miles since last June.
Got about 1/4 tank left. 2013 wasn't so good, with 636 miles driven.

As of today, my 2009 Ford Escape has 7,828 miles on it..
I expect it to be fully broken in by 2019

These days, I'm putting some miles on my bicycle and the wife's Prius C..

Anyways, the key to saving money on fuel, is not to drive an SUV,
unless you need to haul something that won't fit inside a Prius..

Yesterday we picked up four deck chairs at Lowes.
When I started loading them into the Escape, I realized they could have easily fit
in the Prius, if I folded down the seats..

Your doing some great eco driving , by not driving the SUV as a grocery getter like 99.9899% of the SUV drivers do. ( look in any grocery store parking lot , they out number the cars 2 to 1.

The bicycle is a nice touch , it helps keep you healthy / limber and lowers yours need for fossil fuels. Shrinking your carbon footprint in the process.

But your cost per mile must be through the roof! Is it worth keeping?

Maybe the financial impact is inconsequential to your situation, and if so, congratulations!

It's high because I live in MA. I just paid more for a MA inspection
than I spend on one year of gasoline for that Ford.. Insurance? Not cheap..
(In July, the cost of inspections are going up).

It's not worth keeping in my book.. But, my wife likes the idea of being able
to haul 20 bags of mulch home from Home Depot..
I would love to dump this Ford and get a used Prius for myself..
(The full-sized version)..

Maybe I would drive more..?.

The home depot near me has trucks that you can rent.
I have neighbors who have trucks that I can use and they like driving my car while I use their truck!
I put more like 500-1,000 miles per year on other peoples trucks, often times just returning them full of gas is enough.

I have a hitch and trailer and can now haul much longer wood and oddly shaped whatnots then with a pick up.
I sold my Ford Ranger that I bought because I thought I needed a truck to do Reno's with but I was wrong. I needed a trailer for long lumber and easy loading unloading.
