2.0 l / 100km (117mpg) production car by Peugeot!

I will just leave this here.

Apparently I can't post links yet so sorry about the way I had to cut it. Maybe the next poster can provide a working link.

http://paultan.org/2014/09/15/peugeo...es-per-100-km/

http://paultan.org/2015/05/05/peugeo...2l-per-100-km/

For the record the official combined EU consumption is 3.0l/100km (78mpg) but that's still pretty damn impressive.

Average speed was 56.6 km/h on a test circuit (2152km 38 hours).

2 L/100km of fuel have the same energy as 2*1.11= 2.22 L/100km of gasoline

At this speed my Prius use 65 Wh/km on ordinary roads.
65 Wh/km is the same as 65*100/(9000*0.33)=2.17 L/100km of gasoline.

So on road my Prius 2 consume less energy then this 208 hdi on a test circuit.

So not really impressive

Notice how they chose a manual transmission for this test, despite the fact that modern automatics get better official ratings.

I fixed the links in the OP. I thought I messed up the original link, so I included the two links I found from paultan.org

Technically not that impressive, but it's a production car so that's progress. It also looks like "a normal car" and not something out of ecomodder.com

Seems like they're not including the DEF consumption in the bill

The Prius is highly aerodynamically-enhanced, IIRC it's the production car with the lowest drag. Also, due to the absence of a transmission, there are way less friction losses.

Well, Peugeot say at the same time that is a production car and also that it is a special model.

Quote:
La PEUGEOT 208 à l'essai est une version « Très Basse Consommation » disponible dans le réseau commercial
It have an aero mod (on the rear of the car, don't know if it is because they read ecomodder forum ) and tires inflated up to 3.5 bars !! Don't know the outside temperature, if the 38 hours where only during day. The engine has start & stop....
Without this mod the 208 Cx is 0.29 (I don't have the sCx). The car mass is betwenn 1050 - 1090 kg (My car is close to 1400 kg have a Cx near 0.22 and my tire are inflated at 2.8 bars). 22% lighter then my prius.

They drive at a constant speed of 60 km/h. At such a speed the most important is weight and tire. Aero is less then 45% of the total power.

Anyway, I'd still rather drive a small Diesel than a Prius. And in the long run its overall footprint is still smaller.
