Not a bad idea, do you normally check your speed after say a half mile or do you go the full mile? I know of a perfect road not far away, although coasting down for a whole mile could get a few cars behind me mad.

I guess when I get time one day I can make a frame up and pull one of my heavy canvas tarps over it and try a simulated aerocap for a week or two.

I wonder if removing the front section of my tonneau would make sense to try for now?
If you had a ScanGauge or something like it,you'd know pretty quick if it made a difference.

I'm going to build a cheap one this weekend for my 2011 f150 and see if it helps at 70 MPH. It would be far easier to take on and off for road trips which would be the idea.

Construction notes: (correct me if wrong)

20-24 inches In length
8-12 degree downward taper
tonneau all the way up to sail panel or just last 2/3 of bed?

My understanding is a partial tonneau in this situation is better, whether half or 2/3rds I don't know.

I have a built in instantaneous fuel gauge, I just don't anticipate in seeing any substantial difference between the two.

The half-tonneau needs a partition wall so the back of the bed is a closed box.

In the GM patent (https://www.google.com/patents/US457...ed=0CB4Q6AEwAA) they show that adding the partition wall hurts performance several percent, but lets you have an enclosed lockable "trunk" - your choice.

Perhaps this would be a good time to point out that I've been wrong before.

I did a linear interpolation from a photo-enlargement of GM's drag table.
It looks like, that without the partition, the 50% cover gave a -Cd 0.0434 reduction.
With the partition,-Cd 0.0395 reduction,almost 10% difference.
