Holy crap! How much would something like that cost to ship?!
Field oriented control should allow for pretty DC like behavior I think. I've just been so busy. I haven't prioritized it, but it's what I want to work on the most! Makes me mad!

I have finaly read the hole tread and have a question
can the the controller also be used for a brushless HUB motor
is the PWM signals more complicated to an AC motor

8kw for $200 isn't so great. I think this 3 phase controller based on the module

is geared for AC induction. Of course almost anything is possible with a microcontroller.
FYI, I am currently investigating a PMAC (BLDC) specific controller however, based on the atmega for use with ETEC brushless types and alternator conversions. Will start a thread soon, as soon as I get around to a prototype, but I really want to electrify a few smaller vehicles (scooter, motorcycle).

sounds great "dcb" I have invested in 2 Brushless hubs for converting a tre weeler, and need a controller or 2 for driving them they are rated 10Kw boost 20Kw would be nice to have a controller to drive them

Just thinking out loud here but what about adapting a prius transmission as an ac ev motor? isnt it a sealed unit with two ac motors and a diff? .......or mabey i'm just loosing it......

Possible, but you might as well just buy a complete Prius and modify it.
I'm currently taking a class about electronic motor controls, so I should be able to offer some good advice later on.

Regarding Benelson's quote of Jan 7th: 4 pole shaded AC motors run at 1800 rpm unloaded, and about 1725 rpm at full load. Everyone most likely knows this. We can buy slightly used AC motors on the internet for $500.00. Ditto. But not one 60 hertz motor has any expectation of staying together at any higher speed. Or, for how long? I would think anyone going into AC drive should find a motor rated at at least 5000 rpm, to avoid the constant shifting, or, EXPECT to shift. Kindest regards to all, williamson

True,
The only guy I know who has a homebuilt AC electric car is using a more or less "standard" AC motor.
He shifts through all the gears.

An AC motor like that would match nicely to the transmission of a Saturn Sx1 series car
