IPM's are defiantly the way to go for AC, But they are expensive for large ones.

I suggest using the IRAM modules for the prototype as they can easily drive a 1hp motor and will simplify things in the beginning. When that works as expected, then start deigning your own gate drives. Thats what Fran told me.

Ya, my little IRAM is already "rammed" into a prototype practice board. Ideally, I would get one of those big dang IPMs that can handle like 600 amps. If only they were $50 on ebay! dang it.

the IPM's are pretty nice.. I'm lookin at the 200A 600V, looks like a great way to push about 100HP.

Reference Design - Inverter 650V-800A-3 phase

FYI

I ran across this Infineon Reference Design for a HEV Inverter (HybridPACK™2) 650V, 800A, 3 phase, 80 KW.

HybridPACK?2 - Infineon Technologies

They sell a complete development kit for only $6000.00

That's almost 700 HP, way overkill for an eco car.

that's a matter of opinion.

actually oversizing the electronics wouldn't hurt anything, should have lower losses.

I like the link..

Same link except in English. Their site is quite corporately inefficient.
http://www.infineon.com/cms/en/produ...1a727cfcb3708e

check out this PDF in particular:
http://de.sitestat.com/infineon/infi...225a7cfb166c8a

hope that works, it's a doozy.
Well it's got schematics, board layouts, the whole 9 yards. If it'll work for me I'll just build it. That power module and capacitor setup is super slick.

No offence, but I calculated 700 HP to 521.99 kW ???

80kW = 107.28 HP

On that same link they have a 650V – 400A @ 20kW. HybridPACK™1 which is 20kW = 26.82 HP.
