Same on my wagon, with an additional button to open only the rear hatch.

I like the oversized wagon approach as it gets sedan or hatch-like mpg and means I don't need a truck to haul stuff about.

Depends on what sort of stuff you haul. If, like me, you haul firewood (and I don't mean neatly cut & split, but logs 6-8 ft long and up to 18" in diameter), bales of hay, and especially) the occasional load of horse manure for the garden, I think the wagon just doesn't work :-)

On the other hand, I carried everything from sacks of concrete, bales of insulation, and the nose fairing of a Piper Cherokee in the hatch of my old CRX.

6' is at the edge of what will go in with the hatch closed ;-)
18" diameter means I can only take 2 at a time - only 40" between the wheel bays.
I'll politely decline the manure run though

Nothing a trailer can't solve though - I can tow 2800+ lbs .

Any pick-ups out there that match the mileage of my V50 wagon ?

Ah, but can you tow it up the mountain on a narrow, snow-covered, dirt logging road to where the wood is?

Not to mention that before the snow, I was taking a trailer plus the pickup.

Nice. Maybe you can answer the age old question; when you lock your truck in the woods, does it make a sound?

I don't know, 'cause I never lock my truck in the woods. The bears around here aren't into car theft.

Maybe they don't like the truck and prefer to steal wagons
Little chance they'll see one up there in winter though
