playing with fuelling? vag Tdi question..

My Octavia has the pre PD tdi engine setup, and this lump is well known for responding favourably to modifications regarding fuelling.

The simplest of which is the "evry mod" that alters the rate of fuel delivery by wiring a variable reisistor into the fuel pump wiring (details on this thread: Just about the cheapest mod you`ll see... *Update - Now with added boost*)

Daft laddie question time then..

Since increasing the fuel delivery increases power and fuel consumption (within reason!), would the opposite also hold true for reducing fuel delivery?

I'm sort of envisioning a "leanburn for Tdi" that you can dial in once on the motorway..

My car was cheap enough to experiment with- and I'll happily do it and document it.

Any thoughts/suggestions/concerns are most welcome!

Diesel engines are not what you think. They already "lean burn" by design. Altering the quantity of fueling will undoubtedly affect how it performs, but will probably not help fuel economy. This is because fuel mileage is not about how much fuel you inject per cycle, but how efficiently that fuel is converted to mechanical force (per cycle).

Yeah I get that they are effectively "throttled" by fuel available to combust- i was just wondering whether the afr could be raised?

Diesels already go 'lean burn' at low load No doubt there's some room to move from the OEM settings, which is why remaps on diesels usually see economy improvements. If you can get a decent remap, that's the way to go.
